July 23rd, 2008Out Of This World
June 24th, 2008
To borrow a line from KA, anyone who walks out of a Cure show without feeling at least a little bit more in love is an asshole. The Cure have always been about keeping the private moments of fun and joy dear in a world that, at best, doesn’t care; and this weekend felt just like “seeing you eat in the middle of the night.”
The Cure Take Manhattan
June 19th, 2008
The Cure will be in town for two nights: Friday at the Garden and Saturday at Radio City Music Hall. Holy hell am I excited. Reviews should be here soon.
Kate Beaton Totally Rules
June 19th, 2008
“I wonder what Jane Austen would think of some of her crazier fans, now that she has fans.”
Wonkette recently linked to a hilarious comic featuring Teddy Roosevelt by Kate Beaton, and ever since I’ve been hooked. This Jane Austen comic, and the ones inspired by it, really seals the deal, though.
More of her work can be viewed at her website, KateBeaton.com, or at her LiveJournal, where the discussion and commentary is much more lively, but you have to put up with the crappy LiveJournal site…
Smithsonian Institute on Flickr
June 19th, 2008
The Smithsonian made hundreds of photos from its collection available on Flickr, hi-res and free of any rights-restriction. The most interesting ones to me are of prominent scientists of the nineteenth century. The one above is of physicist Max Planck (1858-1947).
Bill Henson’s Paris Opera Project
June 16th, 2008
Via PhotoShelter, photos from a ‘90-’91 exhibit by photographer Bill Henson. I love these photos, although judging from the comments (which are interesting), they’re apparently rather technically flawed. Typical.
City of Shadows
June 16th, 2008An amazing series of long-exposure photographs by Alexey Titarenko. These images make my head spin a little bit thinking about the whole idea of spacetime; and I’d sure love to hear what a physicist would have to say about them.
Pencil Face
June 12th, 2008This video, created by a group of Savannah College of Art and Design alumni called Dandy Dwarves, is one of the best things I’ve seen on video in a long time. It’s a part of a series of shorts titled SCADshorts. View better quality versions here.
It’s Not Like the Old Days…
April 25th, 2008
The Avs aren’t going to win any games if they can only play half of it. Also, what was the story with the fans at the Joe? Is it just me or did they all just take a two hour snooze there beginning halfway through the first period?
Wings vs Avs!
April 23rd, 2008
Get ready — for the first time since 2002, the Wings and Avs are gonna meet in the playoffs.
